Imagine a mapping product that gives more
detailed information, better quality, and a faster turnaround because it can be done in
less than ideal weather conditions. Light
Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) or airborne laser mapping is the technology of the future
and Optimal Geomatic is one of a handful of companies with LiDAR Technology in place now. When
coupling LiDAR with our state-of-the-art Leica LH Systems RC-30, Airborne GPS, inertial measurement units (IMU) company owned
aircraft, our skilled Aerial Photographers and Pilots, Optimal Geomatic clients receive the
best possible mapping product available
today.
Key advantages of the Optimal Geomatic ALTM 1210 LiDAR system include:
Environmentally sensitive
Non-intrusive (no need for right-of-entry for survey)
Significant schedule acceleration achievable compared to traditional mapping project
More economical
Can fly anytime day or night 365 days per year
No sun angle requirements
Can penetrate certain types of vegetation
Leaf-off conditions not required
Among the features specifically included in Optimal Geomatics ALTM 1210 LiDAR system are:
Scan frequency up to 10,000 Hz
Increases number of ground coordinate footprint locations
Minimizes footprint size
Variable scan angle up to 40°
Flight altitudes up to 6500 feet
Optimizes LiDAR swath width as a function of project requirements and economics
First pulse/last pulse
Distinguishes vegetation cover from terrain
Intensity data
Allows for real time imagery in support of preliminary alignment and
grade design
Accuracies to better than 6
Supports ASPRS Class 1 requirements for projects requiring 1 and 2 contours
One of the primary keys to Optimal Geomatics success with our LiDAR technology is in our strategic approach to how we collect and use LiDAR data. Our approach to LiDAR starts in how we acquire the LiDAR data and ends in the uniqueness in the LiDAR product we deliver to our clients.
From the data acquisition phase, Optimal Geomatics approach is centered on the ability to simultaneously acquire photo and LiDAR data with our custom-modified dual sensor aircraft platform. Optimal Geomatic flies a Piper Navajo specially configured with two equipment ports one for our RC-30 precision aerial camera and the second port for our ALTM 1210 LiDAR system. Once acquired, LiDAR data receives preliminary post-processing in the field as a field QC check to ensure data integrity.
Another of the key advantages offered by Optimal Geomatics LiDAR capabilities is in how Optimal Geomatic provides LiDAR data to our clients. Our approach to LiDAR data is that LiDAR data is not a complete solution unto itself, but rather a photogrammetric tool that is part of a much larger and comprehensive photogrammetric solution. By design, Optimal Geomatics deliverables to our clients are not massive LiDAR data sets, but instead include LiDAR data into digital ortho photographs for a more complete and meaningful solution that meet and exceed our clients needs. Few mapping clients find that they have the time or technical expertise to analyze or merge LiDAR data into mapping products. This unique approach taken by Optimal Geomatic affords our clients the ability to receive a quality, turnkey, comprehensive mapping solution in a very timely and economical manner.
LiDAR is quickly becoming the preferred acquisition
choice for elevation data because the quality and detail resulting from this new
technology far exceeds conventional methods.
